Removing the barriers that stop people taking part
Across Bassetlaw and neighbouring communities, many people face cost, transport and confidence barriers. Others have limited access to suitable evening, weekend or holiday activities.
We respond by delivering activities in familiar local places, keeping costs low and creating a welcoming first step into sport and physical activity.
Our focus
We prioritise children, young people, families and communities who are less likely to access organised activity.
Our local knowledge helps us place resources where they can make the greatest difference.
Access
Free and affordable sessions delivered close to where people live, learn and spend time.
Connection
Positive spaces where different ages, backgrounds and neighbourhoods take part together.
Opportunity
Qualifications, practical experience, volunteering and clear routes into local employment.
From taking part to leading sessions
Young people can build confidence, gain recognised leadership qualifications and apply their skills through real delivery. They learn alongside experienced staff before taking on greater responsibility.
young leaders progressed into paid work
They moved from qualifications and volunteering into casual paid delivery on community activities and holiday camps.
Our first apprentice will join the organisation in September 2026.

Annual Report 2025
Active Communities CIC continues to go from strength to strength. Over the past year, we’ve worked alongside our community to deliver hundreds of inclusive sessions, support more young people into volunteering and leadership, and create meaningful opportunities for residents to get active, connect and thrive.
From our Wellbeing Weekender, which brought together more than 40 local organisations, to our innovative HADO project using augmented reality sport to tackle inactivity, 2024–25 has been a year of creativity, collaboration and impact. We’re proud that our programmes are not only improving physical and mental health, but also building confidence, community pride and pathways into employment.
With the continued support of our funders, partners and volunteers, we’re ready for the next chapter; growing partnerships, empowering young leaders and ensuring that every person across our communities has the chance to unite, play and thrive.
